NORFOLK — Kyle Batte’s three-run double capped a seven-run first inning Sunday, and Old Dominion cruised past Rutgers 12-2 for its first first sweep of a Power 5 school since 1999 in a nonconference baseball game at the Bud Metheny Complex.
Matt Schwarz hit a three-run homer to fuel a five-run third as the Monarchs (8-2) rolled to their seventh straight win.
Ryne Moore (2-0) scattered one run and three hits over five innings for the win. He struck out five.
ODU’s last sweep of a Power 5 school was also over Rutgers (2-7).
