The tournament was started in 1976 and is the longest-running active men's soccer tournament in Division I. The Monarchs have won the Queens Cup (the tournament championship trophy) 17 times and have a combined all-time record of 57-22-2 in the tournament. The Queens Cup was originally given to Old Dominion University by the British Royal Navy in 1976 in honor of Queen Elizabeth.
