FERRUM, Va. -- Chris Mecate and Alexander Richardson were named to the VaSID All-State first team this week, as was announced by the Virginia Sports Information Directors on Wednesday.
Mecate capped off his decorated collegiate wrestling career with a fifth-place finish at the 2016 NCAA Championships at Madison Square Garden last month, becoming ODU's first-ever back-to-back All-American in Division I wrestling. The redshirt senior from Highland, California captured the 2016 MAC Championship at 141 and leaves Old Dominion with a 115-37 career record, which ranks eighth in school history for most wins.
