NORFOLK, Va. -- Aaron Bacote was 7 of 11 from the floor and made 13 of 17 free throws for 30 points to lead Old Dominion to its 30th straight win at home, a 71-65 victory over Rhode Island on Tuesday night.
Old Dominion (6-6) was 20-0 at home last season and is 6-0 this year. However the Monarchs are 0-6 when playing away.
Old Dominion held a comfortable 34-24 lead at the break and was ahead 50-36 midway in the second half. Nicola Akele nailed a 3-pointer to start a 13-4 run and Rhode Island closed the gap to 56-53 with 5:06 left.
