Old Dominion scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning Friday, but couldn’t make it hold up, losing 8-6 to Quinnipiac in the opener of a three-game nonconference baseball series at Bud Metheny Complex.

Vinnie Pasquantino hit a two-run single, then he and Culver Lamb (Tallwood) scored on a two-run error to give the Monarchs a 4-0 lead after one inning.

But the Bobcats answered with a run in the second and three in the third to tie it and three more in the fourth to take the lead for good.

Matt Schwartz, Kyle Battle, Will Morgan and DJ Lardge had two hits each for ODU (5-7), who had 12 and stranded 14 baserunners.
