DALLAS -- In an exclusive interview with The Oklahoman's Berry Tramel, Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby said the conference's new rule limiting contact during the season isn't an attempt to "sissify" football and may indeed be a competitive advantage.
"We need to make it a safer game. That doesn’t mean we need to sissify it," Bowlsby said Monday following his press conference at Big 12 football media days at the Omni Dallas Hotel. "We all like the contact, but we need to make sure it’s a safer game in the short term and in the long term."
Bowlsby announced Monday that the Big 12 recently passed a measure limiting teams to two sessions of full-contact per week—including games.
