The Big Ten has adopted a scheduling model, starting with the 2016 season, in which its teams won’t play Division I-AA opponents. No more games, at least when current contracts run out, against lower-division programs that can offer 20 fewer scholarships than major opponents and are automatic victories for schools that can write a big enough check to entice the little guy to be a sacrificial lamb.
Bully for the Big Ten. Gross mismatches are the bane of college football. They need to be eradicated.
On opening weekend alone, 22 of the 64 teams in the Power 5 conferences play Division I-AA opponents.
