The Trae Young hype was validated (again) Saturday afternoon in Gallagher-Iba Arena. Although fourth-ranked Oklahoma lost 83-81, Young had a record-tying performance, scoring 48 points (tying Melvin Ejim’s Big 12 record) on 14-of-39 shooting. It was his third40-point game of the season.
He needed a lot of shots to get there, but coming two points shy of a 50-burger is crazy, especially at the college level.
The outburst broke a Bedlam record, surpassing Jawun Evans’ 44-point performance that took place in GIA two years ago. Cody Stavenhagen of The Tulsa World made note of another record, which Young then surpassed moments later.
