Tommy Molsky found out he was starting less than 24 hours before his team’s conference championship game.
In an odd fashion, too.
Shortly after Oklahoma State’s Big 12 semifinal win against UCF on Friday night, pitching coach Rob Walton started listing off options to pitch for the Cowboys in the conference championship game against Oklahoma.
“I kind of heard (Walton) say blah blah blah is starting,” Molsky said.
He never distinctly heard his name called out. But moments later, each member of OSU’s pitching staff was staring in his direction. In that moment, reality hit.
