'They got the one big blow': Oklahoma State falls to Florida 1-0 at WCWS, faces elimination game

OKLAHOMA CITY — One run was enough for Florida; now Oklahoma State’s season hangs by a thread.

The No. 5 Cowgirls fell 1-0 to the four-seeded Gators at Devon Park Thursday night in the first round of the Women’s College World Series in an "old-fashioned softball game," as Florida head coach Tim Walton described it.

Now, OSU is one loss away from going home.

“I really think it was a good softball game,” OSU head coach Kenny Gajewski said. “We just came up on the wrong end.”

Neither offense raised eyebrows, but Florida got the big swing that swung the game, and OSU, which entered the WCWS on a high note offensively, couldn’t find the one run it needed to match.
