Illinois fired football coach Tim Beckman last week, and maybe the reasons were multiple. But we know of one. Beckman didn’t win enough games.
That was unstated, of course. Beckman was booted after a preliminary review of an external investigation following a Chicago Tribune project that interviewed 50 former Illinois players, some of whom alleged mistreatment from Beckman in terms of recovering from injuries.
Illinois athletic director Mike Thomas said the findings of the probe “does not reflect our values or our commitment to the welfare of our student-athletes.”
Maybe so. But Chicago media have asked why Thomas still has a job.
