With the game tied 4-4 in the ninth inning Friday night, and Oklahoma State threatening, Cowboys batter Corey Hassel was hit by a pitch from St. John’s closer Thomas Hackimer.
That put runners at first and second, with no outs. And it brought a hot St. John’s coach Ed Blankmeyer out to argue after Hassel was left lying in the dirt at home plate.
Blankmeyer seemed to suggest that Hassel took the pitch — to the throat — on purpose.
“I thought he never pulled the bat back,” Blankmeyer said.
