Colin Simpson reminded the West Virginia baseball team why he earned his nickname.
Two seasons ago, the Mountaineers and coach Randy Mazey started calling him Homer Simpson because of his hitting prowess. Simpson, a senior catcher/outfielder, smoked the ball over the right-field wall for an eighth-inning grand slam that sealed Oklahoma State’s comeback against WVU on Saturday.
OSU defeated the Mountaineers 9-5 in Allie P. Reynolds Stadium. After a Friday loss, the No. 23 Cowboys kept their chances of winning the three-game series alive.
Simpson rounded the bases and removed his batting helmet, clanking it against his teammates’ helmets.
