RIding in style: The comfort of a grueling road trip

Coach John Smith looked exhausted Sunday afternoon — almost as if he had just finished a match in the 1988 Olympics.

He spent six hours coaching his team in duals against SIU-Edwardsville and Little Rock.

COVID-19 protocols have limited OSU to wrestling once per week. Therefore, Smith scheduled two opponents for each dual meet in order to reach the desired number of matches in a season.

The long day of coaching began at early dawn and didn’t end until the team returned to Stillwater from Little Rock, Arkansas — a five-hour bus trip.

Eighteen hour days are not easy, no matter the profession.
