As a child in New York, Beth Mowins dreamed of talking about sports on TV.
Mowins, a play-by-play announcer for ESPN, achieved her longtime goal and emerged as a trailblazer in the sports media field. She became the first woman to call a nationally televised NFL game when she was a play-by-play announcer for a Monday Night Football game between the Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos in September 2017.
Mowins spoke to members of Oklahoma State’s Sports Media Club, Association for Women in Sports Media and Associated Press Sports Editors student chapter on Wednesday. She offered advice, conducted a play-by-play workshop and discussed her varied media experiences, from covering the 2011 World Cup in Germany to announcing at dog shows.
