OU Fires Defensive Coordinator Mike Stoops

A day after allowing 48 points to rival Texas, OU defensive coordinator Mike Stoops finds himself jobless.

The Football Brainiacs first reported the news of Stoops’ firing. The Oklahoman and Tulsa World also confirmed the news.

Stoops served on OU’s staff since 2012 and was a holdover on the coaching staff of his brother, Bob’s, regime. Under Lincoln Riley, who took over last year, Stoops didn’t last two full seasons.

OU’s defense is 89th in total defense, and ranked 43rd nationally in yards per play through Week 6, nine spots ahead of OSU’s defense.
