STILLWATER — Brandon Averette lit up the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex two years straight, leading all area Class 6A players in scoring as a senior at Richardson High School.
And yet, college coaches stayed away, seeing little, literally, in the 5-foot-11, 175-pound guard.
All but those from one school, anyway — Stephen F. Austin.
So when Brad Underwood made the move from SFA to Oklahoma State, inviting Averette along, the player's decision to follow came easy, even as some recruiting latecomers finally sparked an interest.
Underwood and assistant Mike Boynton stayed loyal to Averette. And Averette stayed loyal, too.
