STILLWATER — Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders underwent surgery to repair his injured thumb and will not return during the regular season, The Oklahoman has confirmed.
Sanders was removed in the third quarter of OSU’s 31-13 win over Kansas last Saturday because of the injury. News of his surgery was first reported Thursday by Dusty Dvoracek of ESPN and the Sports Animal radio network.
OSU coach Mike Gundy initially said Sanders was removed from the game for precautionary reasons. However, examinations on Monday proved Sanders would require surgery, sources told The Oklahoman.
Without Sanders, the focus turns to Dru Brown, the fifth-year senior and former Hawaii starter who transferred to OSU in 2018.
