AMES, Iowa — Oklahoma State receiver Marcell Ateman's catch that ultimately tied the game, setting up the Cowboys' 49-42 victory Saturday at Iowa State began as the same play OSU had run to Jalen McCleskey in the third quarter.
McCleskey got open and nearly outran everyone, getting tackled on the 1-yard line with an 81-yard gain.
When they called it again later, quarterback Mason Rudolph saw that the defense had recognized the alignment and was in place to take away the throw to McCleskey. That left Rudolph to scramble and eventually find Ateman.
McCleskey finished with five catches for 109 yards.
