STILLWATER — Oklahoma State sophomore Chad Whitener filled in for injured senior Ryan Simmons at middle linebacker in Saturday's 36-34 victory against Kansas State.
Whitener, a California transfer and former walk-on put on scholarship during fall camp, tallied a team-high nine tackles, including three for loss, to go along with two sacks.
Whitener discussed his performance in an interview with The Oklahoman following the game.
Q: What was the key to your-team leading nine tackles?
A: I had no idea about the tackle total. I'm happy I got to step in and help this team win.
