OSU football: Mike Gundy suggests Spencer Sanders could play at Kansas

STILLWATER — Spencer Sanders practiced on Sunday, which is one small step toward the sophomore quarterback playing this Saturday at Kansas.

The players had Monday off, as usual, and the bigger tests for Sanders’ sprained ankle will come in Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s workouts — the most intense practices of the week for the Cowboys.

No. 17-ranked OSU is at Kansas at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, and the truth is, OSU shouldn’t need its most gifted quarterback to beat the Big 12 bottom-feeding Jayhawks.

OSU got past Tulsa and West Virginia on the strength of its defense and run game, plus adequate passing from true freshman quarterback Shane Illingworth, who is now 19-of-26 passing for 219 yards in just over five quarters of action.
