STILLWATER — Leslie O’Neal became the sixth former Oklahoma State football player, and the first such defensive player, to be named to the College Football Hall of Fame.
O’Neal was part of a 17-player class announced as inductees by the National Football Foundation on Wednesday.
A two-time All-American, O’Neal anchored the two best defenses in school history in 1984 and 1985. The Cowboys allowed 34 total touchdowns in those two seasons, the lowest total in school history.
He earned All-Big Eight recognition each of his last three seasons at OSU and was the conference defensive player of the year in 1984 when he set the Cowboy record of 16.
