STILLWATER — Oklahoma State tight end Jelani Woods is one of 36 players named to the preseason watch list for the John Mackey Award, given to college football’s most outstanding tight end.
A junior from Ellenwood, Georgia, Woods was originally recruited as a quarterback. The 6-foot-7, 275-pound Woods has caught 23 passes for 232 yards and three touchdowns over the past two seasons since moving to tight end.
The John Mackey Award winner will be announced and presented in December. It is given to the college tight end who best exemplifies the play, sportsmanship, academics and community values of NFL Hall of Fame tight end John Mackey.
