NORMAN — Saturday night was far from pretty for Oklahoma State’s Shane Illingworth, the true freshman quarterback thrown into the middle of a Bedlam beatdown after starter Spencer Sanders suffered a head injury.
Illingworth’s accuracy was off. He had defenders coming at him all night when he stood in the pocket.
But the 6-foot-5, 225-pound true freshman from Norco, California, never got rattled amid all the chaos.
He finished 5-of-21 passing for 71 yards and a touchdown, taking over late in the first quarter until Sanders returned early in the fourth.
“You can’t expect too much from a young guy like that,” senior receiver Tylan Wallace said.
