Not just because Oklahoma State brought in new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, who would be installing his own philosophies, but also because of basic math.
Glenn Spencer's 4-3 alignment was being replaced with Knowles' 4-2-5. So that's a plus-one in the secondary and a minus-one at linebacker.
Now in the middle of their second week of spring practice, the Cowboys are better learning what the changes are going to look like.
