STILLWATER – A friend of Dave Hunziker’s once explained to him the importance of a university’s radio play-by-play man.
Coaches come and go. Athletic directors come and go. Presidents come and go. “But in many cases,” the friend said, “the voice doesn’t come and go.”
Certainly not at Oklahoma State. The Cowboys have leadership stability. Football coach Mike Gundy, on the job since January 2005. AD Mike Holder, on the job since September 2005. President Burns Hargis, on the job since March 2008.
But Hunziker trumps them all. In fact, Friday night in Corvallis, Oregon, where the Cowboys open the season against Oregon State, Hunziker becomes the longest-serving radio voice in OSU history, a school with one iconic voice after another.
