STILLWATER — Shari Abbott once spotted her youngest son on the edge of the family's property tackling a tire. Later, she watched as he repeatedly jumped on and off a small ledge near the driveway.
When she came out to ask for quick help with a chore, young Britton Abbott shot back, “I'm in the middle of my workout, Mom.”
Britton grew up tagging along to his three older brothers' youth football practices, often participating himself. But Sunday was game day, and until he was 8, Britton wasn't old enough to play. The self-driven workouts were his way to prepare for his turn.
