The San Antonio Express-News reported Wednesday that Spencer had interviewed for the position.
Spencer has coached at Oklahoma State since 2008 and has been the Cowboys' sole defensive coordinator for the past three seasons.
Spencer would be the fifth coach under Mike Gundy to accept a head coaching position.
