Garrett Benge wanted to shoulder the blame. Tyler Buffett wouldn’t let him.
The Oklahoma State baseball team’s bats were quiet throughout a 2-1 loss to South Dakota State on Friday. Benge, the Cowboys’ third baseman, had OSU’s only extra-base hit and scored its only run, but his third-inning error helped the Jackrabbits produce a run.
As a team, the Cowboys went 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position, saddling Buffett, their starting pitcher, with a hard-luck loss.
“Bengie came up to me a couple times, said, ‘We did it,’ that they didn’t have my back, but I’m not worried about that,” Buffett said.
