OSU basketball: Happy returns for Leyton Hammonds, Cowboys

STILLWATER — Pneumonia wasn't good for Leyton Hammonds.

His return from the illness, however, was superb.

Hammonds produced a career-high scoring effort by halftime and finished with 20 points, leading Oklahoma State past Long Beach State for the second time in six days, this time 79-73 at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

Hammonds missed all three games in the Charleston Classic, left at home in Stillwater to rest and recuperate. The junior forward didn't start in his return, yet was strong enough to play 27 minutes and good enough to make 8 of 14 shots from the floor and grab seven rebounds.
