OSU basketball: Freshman Avery Anderson III wins dunk contest

STILLWATER — Avery Anderson III wanted to jump over Mike Boynton. Instead, he settled for a small gymnastics routine.

To open Friday night’s Homecoming & Hoops dunk contest at Oklahoma State’s Gallagher-Iba Arena, Anderson started with a handspring and then a flip before catching the rebound off the backboard and slamming the ball through the rim.

It was the dunk that propelled the freshman point guard to the title.

“I rate my performance a 10,” Anderson said.

Anderson, however, wanted to show off his jumping ability in another way. He asked to jump over Boynton, OSU’s coach.
