Eddie Sutton, who returned Oklahoma State basketball to prominence, died Saturday in Tulsa. He was 84 years old.
Sutton, a legendary men's basketball coach, was born March 12, 1936 in Bucklin, Kansas. He graduated from OSU in 1958 after playing basketball under coach Henry Iba for four years. Sutton returned to take over the basketball program at his alma mater in 1990, after 30 years of coaching at other institutions.
During Sutton’s first season at the helm of the Cowboys, OSU received a berth in the NCAA Tournament, ending an eight-year drought from playing in the main draw of college basketball's postseason.
