OMAHA, Neb. — Oklahoma State catcher Collin Theroux glanced over at Rob Walton and squinted, peering closely for some sort of sign or revelation to confirm ongoing suspicions surrounding the Cowboys pitching coach.
“We call him the wizard,” Theroux said. “We don't think he's actually human, considering the things he's able to get these pitchers to do.
“And they trust him. They're willing to try anything that he says. He sees things really differently than just about any coach that I've been around. Things just work.”
Things do work, marvelously, even when it doesn't seem likely, evident throughout OSU's four-year rise in becoming the Big 12's premier pitching staff; and most recently the staff's run of outstanding outings carrying the Cowboys to the College World Series.
