Phillips, a freshman left-handed pitcher making his second start, stormed off the field after the inning, beaming a confidence not shown during his debut. That game, a loss against Vanderbilt in Arlington a week ago, was a forgettable one.
This was different.
“It felt much better than last time,” Phillips said.
Phillips pitched six innings and earned his first win in the 15th-ranked Cowboys’ 11-1 run-rule win against Loyola Marymount in seven innings in O’Brate Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
In the second, Phillips gave up a hit against the first batter but didn’t panic. It didn’t turn into a seven-run outing like it did against Vanderbilt.
