Former Oklahoma State wrestler Alex Dieringer won bronze at the Pan-American Championships in men’s freestyle at 86 kilograms with a 11-1 win by technical superiority against Colombia’s Carlos Izquierdo Mendez on Monday in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
Dieringer build a 6-0 lead on two takedowns and a tilt before Mendez and Dieringer exchanged push out points for a 7-1 score at the break. The former Cowboy scored a takedown off Mendez’s shot attempt then added another takedown for the win.
Dieringer, a three NCAA individual champion and 2016 Dan Hodge Trophy winner, went 3-1 in the tournament with his lone loss in the semifinals, 2-1 against 2019 Pan Am Games champion Yurieski Torreblanca Queralta of Cuba.
