STILLWATER — Oklahoma State senior Alex Dieringer has been named the 2016 Dan Hodge Trophy winner as the nation's top collegiate wrestler.
The honor is equivalent to college football's Heisman Trophy.
"I don't even think it has totally set in yet," Dierenger said. "To be recognized as the best wrestler in the nation is an honor. I kind of feel like Barry Sanders right now."
Dieringer, a 165-pound Wisconsin native, rolled to a 33-0 record this season en route to his third career individual NCAA championship victory. He allowed only one takedown all year while recording bonus points in all but six matches.
