Vic Koenning goes back a long way. How long? Owasso High School, 1970s.
Remember Jim Dickey’s grand plan to redshirt prominent players in 1981, to jumpstart a Kansas State football program mired in despair? Koenning was one of those players, a defensive end who sat out what would have been his senior season to play in 1982, which became KSU’s first bowl team.
By the way, that 1982 Independence Bowl between KSU and Wisconsin was the first live telecast of a college football game by ESPN.
Koenning was at KSU long enough to appear in at least two Oklahoman photographs, trying to tackle Billy Sims in 1978 and trying to tackle Marcus Dupree in 1982.
