Oklahoma State football: Quarterback Taylor Cornelius battles for backup role with Cowboys

STILLWATER — The golden rule for backup quarterbacks is crystal clear for Taylor Cornelius.

The Oklahoma State redshirt freshman in a second-string battle with John Kolar this spring understands his number could be called at any moment. Just ask Cornelius about the 2013 Texas District 1-2A championship game.

He quarterbacked Bushland High School to a narrow lead against Littlefield. Late in the fourth quarter, the Bushland defense needed one final stop to secure the victory. That's when Littlefield ran its star running back out at receiver — a decision that prompted quick thinking from Bushland coach Steven Flowers.
