Leveni was projected as a potential starter this season following the departure of seniors James Castleman and Ofa Hautau. However, a hand injury kept Leveni almost entirely out of spring practice.

The Cowboys move ahead with two other prime candidates at defensive tackle in Vincent Taylor and Motekiai Maile.

Taylor — a 6-foot-3, 300-pound sophomore — had a breakout spring game with five tackles (three for loss) and a sack.
