Oklahoma State football: Matt Ammendola makes run at starting kickoff specialist with strong spring game

STILLWATER — Zach Sinor knelt at the 40-yard line as gusting winds swirled orange flags atop yellow uprights in the east end zone Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium.

He handled a long snap, placed the football on the turf, and the unlikeliest of spring game stars took center stage — Matt Ammendola's right leg.

It propelled flying leather well above the goal post 50 yards downfield. He hit another from 40. One more from 32. And when the Cowboys returned from halftime, Ammendola blasted the opening kickoff through the end zone.

“He's got one of the strongest legs I've ever seen,” Sinor said.
