Oklahoma State football: Former Oklahoma State assistant Jason Jones revered by Ole Miss players as Rebels' co-defensive coordinator

NEW ORLEANS — Defensive back Trae Elston made the 16-hour drive from Oxford, Ala., to Stillwater back in January 2012 to visit Oklahoma State as potential landing spot to play college football.

The long journey was worth it thanks to his recruitment by Cowboy defensive backs coach Jason Jones.

“My mom loved him,” Elston said, “and he was a great man to me.”

Elston signed with Ole Miss the following month, and one year later, Jones left OSU to become co-defensive coordinator and cornerbacks coach for the Rebels.

“I just think of that as a blessing,” Elston said.
