Oklahoma freshman infielder Shay Knighten earned her first career Big 12 Player of the Week Award, the league announced Tuesday.
Knighten — a former prep star at Sunny Hills High School (Buena Park, Calif.) — was 7-of-9 at the plate with three runs scored, including a home run, eight runs batted in and two stolen bases. Her performance helped fuel three-straight wins against Texas.
Knighten is the first position player to win the individual Big 12 honor this season and is the first Sooner freshman to claim the award since Lauren Chamberlain in 2012.
