Notebook: Strikeouts haunt Cowboys in rubber-match loss to WVU

As the West Virginia players emerged from the dugout to celebrate, Oklahoma State’s crowd vehemently booed the last call.

Hueston Morrill, OSU’s freshman second baseman, struck out looking to end the Cowboy baseball team’s rubber match against the Mountaineers. WVU defeated OSU 4-2 on Sunday afternoon in Allie P. Reynolds Stadium. The No. 23 Cowboys dropped their first Big 12 series this season.

Although home-plate umpire Brandon Misun ruled that it was Morrill’s third strike in the ninth inning, many fans disagreed. Josh Holliday, OSU’s coach, also said the pitch was too high.

Colin Simpson, a Cowboy senior catcher/outfielder who watched Morrill’s at-bat from the dugout, said he wasn’t sure.
