When Spencer Sanders injured his ankle in Week 1, things looked grim. What was supposed to be a blowout against Tulsa, quickly turned into a defensive slugfest, with a typically-explosive Oklahoma State offense falling into a hole.
That is until true freshman Shane Illingworth ignited OSU’s offense and helped the Cowboys escape with a 16-7 victory.
Since then, Illingworth has remained under center and provided a stable option for the Cowboys. But coach Mike Gundy and the OSU coaching staff haven’t been able to be as aggressive as they usually are with Illingworth at QB.
