No cowboy hat, no worries? Cowboys reaching success without signature rally item

The cowboy hat’s baseball career ended, and the possibility of a return is uncertain.

When Colin Simpson returned to the dugout after blasting the baseball above the left-field fence for a grand slam against Baylor, no one placed the cream-colored rally item on his head. The Oklahoma State baseball team had stowed the hat in the locker room, hiding it from every pitch and swing its presence could possibly influence.

Cade Cabbiness, a junior right fielder, avoided the word “superstition,” but after the Cowboys dropped three straight games to Texas Tech, the home-run hat went on hiatus.
