NIT could give OSU basketball a boost with fans

Jerod Haase has seen Gallagher-Iba Arena at its best. As a Kansas shooting guard in the 1990s, Haase came to Stillwater twice for showdowns against Eddie Sutton’s Cowboys – Haase played in Big Country’s legendary 33-point, 20-rebound game in 1995.

That was in the middle version of Gallagher’s history, the 6,381-seat bandbox that rivaled KU’s Allen Fieldhouse and Duke’s Cameron Indoor Stadium as college basketball’s greatest environments.

Haase was back in Stillwater on Monday night, coaching Stanford against OSU in the National Invitation Tournament. And the Cowboys won 71-65 in front of a crowd of 9,635, an amazing number considering it’s spring break and it’s the NIT.
