Thabo Mwaniki, a sophomore safety, chose to request his release and transfer from the Oklahoma State football team.
Mwaniki made the announcement Sunday, a day after the Cowboys' road Bedlam loss, on Twitter.
Several of his teammates, including cornerback Tanner McCalister, kicker Jake McClure and running back Chuba Hubbard, shared support for him on Twitter.
