It didn’t matter where the pitch was going. Madi Sue Montgomery was going to swing.
Montgomery, a junior second baseman on the Oklahoma State softball team, was playing for her dad, Monty, in a youth softball tournament. As Montgomery readied in the batter’s box, her teammate at the time and at OSU, Taylor Lynch, watched and was preparing for her next at-bat.
The first pitch was high, and Montgomery swung. Her father remained quiet, watching as Montgomery dug into the box again.
Another swing, and again the ball was as high as her head. It seemed as if Montgomery was swinging at a piñata.
