Mickey Tettleton remembers the look on Mike Moore’s face.
It was a game in Oakland, Tettleton thinks, and Moore had pitched the Detroit Tigers to a 2-1 lead. In the sixth inning, manager Sparky Anderson came out to the mound and wanted the ball.
Anderson long had been known as Captain Hook, a manager who went to his bullpen quickly, long before it became fashionable. Moore didn’t care if it was Captain Hook or Peter Pan; Moore wanted to stay in the game.
