Two days after freshman quarterback Maealiuaki Smith made his first collegiate start, Mike Gundy’s assessment of his young prospect remained the same.
“When I watched it overall, just from a distance, it looked like to me that he played pretty well,” Gundy said Monday during his weekly press conference. “And I think that he would say that he played exceptionally well for a freshman.”
Despite a 56-48 loss to Texas Tech at Boone Pickens Stadium on Senior Day, Smith dazzled, throwing for 326 yards and two touchdowns to just one interception, while logging a rushing touchdown, too.
